Martha Schlitt was raised in Washington, DC. She received a BA in American Studies from Barnard College and completed the Post-Baccalaureate program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1988, she attended the Vermont Studio School, Johnson, VT, and was awarded a one year fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she received an MFA in Studio Art. She was nominated for a Eureka Fellowship from the Fleishhacker Foundation. Recent exhibitions include ArtWorks Northwest, Umpqua Valley Arts Association, Roseburg, OR (2015), Alteration of the Grain, Evergreen Valley College, San Jose, CA, Lost & Found, Multnomah Arts Center, Portland, OR, and Oregon Artists Showcase, Chelahem Cultural Center, Newberg, OR (2014).
