The 21c Artadia Award is designed to provide essential funding and recognition to artists at pivotal points in their careers, strengthen arts communities, and spur new levels of career achievement. This year, the Award celebrates an artist working in a region often overlooked by the broader art world.
We received 115 eligible applications, with 35% of the applicants identifying as African, African American or Black, Multiracial, Arab, Arab American, Asian or Asian American, Latina/e/o/x, Middle Eastern, or North African; 55% as women, gender nonconforming, or nonbinary; and 57% as emerging artists.
The Award decision was reached after an extensive two-tiered jurying process conducted by Jennie Goldstein, Marion Boulton “Kippy” Stroud Curator of the Collection, Whitney Museum of American Art; and Amanda Hunt, Head of Public Engagement, Learning, and Impact, Walker Art Center. This year’s finalists for the Award included Su A Chae and Coral P. All three finalists held virtual studio visits with the juror panel.
