On February 24, 2022 Atreya Mathur, the Judith Bresler Fellow at the Center for Art Law, and Minelli Manoukian, Executive Director at the Center for Art Law, covered the fundamentals, laws and landmark cases in copyright, the importance of copyright for artists, and its relevance in a social media-driven world.

Atreya Mathur is the Judith Bresler Fellow at the Center for Art Law. She is a Master of Laws Graduate from New York University School of Law where she specialized in Competition, Innovation, and Information Laws, with a focus on copyright, intellectual property, and art law. She is an attorney from India and received her Bachelor of Laws and Business Administration from the School of Law, Christ University. Atreya also co-founded m e r a k i consultancy, a consultancy service focused on legal academia and higher education in law. She has had her papers on copyright, art, international trade, and corporate governance published in several journals including the European Journal of Sustainable Development, the Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation, and the New York University Intellectual Property & Entertainment Law Journal Blog. She has also presented her papers and research at the Central European University in Budapest and at the International Conference on Sustainable Development in Rome.

Minelli Manoukian is the Executive Director at the Center for Art Law. She has been an attorney since September 2020 and, outside of her legal career, she enjoys moonlighting as a visual artist and performer in her spare time. Minelli received her Bachelors of Science in Public Affairs with a major in Legal Studies from Indiana University Bloomington, and later received her Juris Doctor from the Michigan State University College of Law. Minelli’s area of academic study has focused on art law, the First Amendment, intellectual property law, brand protection and anti-counterfeiting. Minelli strongly believes in protecting the rights and creations of artists and in fostering accessibility to legal information in the art world. Her publications include articles published and forthcoming in the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media, and Entertainment Law Journal, the AIPLA Quarterly Journal, and the Center for Anti-Counterfeiting and Product Protection’s Brand Protection Professional.
