Erika Hannes is a multi-disciplinary artist and engineer born in Mexico City, Mexico, living in San Francisco, California. She received her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA in 1995. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA (1986).

Hannes has produced extensive site specific installations, sculptures and dioramas, which include sensors and electromechanical devices. Her pieces can be set individually, grouped into installations, used in performances, or worn on the body. Additionally, she continues to apply her technical and creative concepts to functional art, costuming, performance, and collaborating with artists. Her work has been exhibited at many venues including at Oakland Museum of California, Oakland, CA; Galería de la Raza, San Francisco, CA; Noe Studio, San Francisco, CA; Climate Theater, San Francisco, CA; SFMMUF, San Francisco, CA; Gale Group, Foster City, CA; Southern Exposure, San Francisco, CA; Jernigan Wicker Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and Yerba Buena Arts, San Francisco, CA.

Hannes is the recipient of the Scholarship for seminar on social design at San Francisco State University.
