Mexican born artist, adapted Chicago native, distinctive visionary, and spirited explorer, Juan Angel Chavez is best known for interactive, larger than life, assemblages, sculptures, and installations of found materials, light, and sound, that captivate viewers in museums, art centers, and galleries across the globe.
His work has been exhibited through the United States, Mexico, Europe, Thailand, and New Zealand. He has been recognized with the prestigious Richard H. Driehaus Individual Artist Award; the Louis Comfort Tiffany award in New York, NY; 3Arts, Chicago; and The Joan Mitchell Foundation award for painters and sculptors, New York, NY. He has also participated in artist residencies at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and Apex Art, New York, NY/ Bangkok Project.
