Ryan Foerster (b. 1983, Newmarket, Canada) lives and works in New York. His work in photography serves as a relief of his responses to everyday urban materials and the chemical experiments that he imposes upon them within the processes of the darkroom. In collages of lived and altered materials, Foerster induces sentient reactions through imagery that ranges from the familiar and representative to the corrosive and abstract. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Art Metropole, Toronto, Canada; Swiss Institute, New York; and White Columns, New York. Recent group exhibitions include Blossoms Take No Prisoners, Non Objectif Sud, Tulette, France; Das Optische Unbewusste, Kunst(Zeug)Haus, Rapperswil, Switzerland; It’s an Invasion, National Arts Club, New York; and Inner Journeys, Maison Particullere Art Center, Brussels.
Forester is the recipient of the 2013 NADA Miami Artadia Award.
